System requirements
The requirements for RaptorMed are very minimal. The RaptorMed system is composed of a central "server" that
houses the database and any number of workstations that run the RaptorMed application to connect to it. The various computers need to be
connected over a local area network (LAN) either by a hard-wired cable or WIFI. Note, however, that an Internet connection is only needed
for a few very specific functions. 99% of the system runs without any need for the Internet. This software is primarily designed
for the Windows operating system but the workstation software can run on a Mac and even other devices with
a little extra work (see below).

						- The server - This runs the MySQL database and it can run on pretty much any version of Windows from
XP (believe it or not) all the way up the latest version. Hardware requirements are minimal but I suggest at least 8
(but preferable 16) GB of RAM. The CPU really doesn't matter much and typical hard disks these days are so huge
that disk space will not be a consideration. For example, as of this writing, the database at Carolina Raptor Center had been running
for over 10 years and only takes up 330 MB of space (not including images). The server should have a backup power supply
and it can run as a virtual machine if needed. Note that you can also run the main workstation application on the server.

- The workstation application - This is a standard Windows app and will run on anything from an old XP machine to the latest
Surface tablets. RaptorMed does display alot of graphics and many sub-windows for reports so having a higher resolution screen helps alot.
There really are no minimum hardware requirements and many customers just used old donated machines or refurbished laptops. The
application also runs nicely on a Mac using either a virtual machine like Parallels (www.parallels.com) or VMWare Fusion (vmware.com). If you have good IT support, the application can even be hosted on iOS devices.
